1884 Stitchery

Ottavia Mentessi was born April 2, 1884 in Roggio, Italy. Her grandmother taught her to knit when she was four or five years old, while sitting on a hillside watching the sheep. ​Ottavia is my great-grandmother and, I believe, I got my love of needlework from her. A pair of knitted socks for my great-grandfather and an apron she made and wore decorate my studio and I smile at the craft we share. ​1884 Stitchery is dedicated to her and the imprint she unknowingly left on me.
